PART-TIME GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR OPPORTUNITY: Gujarati or Hindi/Urdu-speaking Research Study Group Fitness Instructor

Certified Group Exercise Instructor (GEI) or Certified Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) needed for a National Institutes for Health funded study titled, “South Asians Active Together (SAATH).” We are looking for a certified GEI/GFI who is familiar and flexible with various aerobic exercise techniques and can lead and supervise instructional exercise sessions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The GEI/GFI will conduct virtual group exercise classes over zoom with middle-aged women and their 11 to 16 year old daughters who are able to exercise independently to improve health-related physical fitness, manage health risk, and promote lasting health behavior change.

The GEI/GFI will be responsible for conducting an 18- week group exercise class, 2 times per week (one weekend day and one weekday evening or two weekday evenings) for a group of 15 women in a class. Classes will include 40-45 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity, 15 minutes of warm up and cool down. Candidate should be able to provide a fun and safe workout and educate participants regarding safe exercise practices.  They should be flexible to work with participants who will be at varying levels of fitness by providing modifications and accommodating of music preferences. It is important to be willing to answer questions and keep the participants motivated.

The GEI/GFI must be willing to follow all study related protocols and to comply with all research-related procedures and regulations. They will be required to complete the Northwestern University’s Institutional Review Board human subject’s certification.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified group exercise/fitness instructor (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, AEA preferred or BollyX certification /Zumba license)

  • 21 years or older

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Adult CPR/AED Certification

  • Prior experience leading group exercise classes for at least 6 months -1 year

  • Ability to teach a variety of group fitness formats

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Work on one weekday evening and one weekend day or two weekday evenings

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in public health or community health

  • Familiarity with research

  • Working knowledge of spoken Hindi and/or Gujarati

 

*This is an Independent Contractor position. You will not be considered a Northwestern University employee, but a contractor of NU.
